Tour Overview
Supra Academy U16 made the trip from Canada to Portugal to participate in the prestigious Algarve Cup, one of Europe’s top youth tournaments. This exciting and well-organized trip was made possible by Orange Veins, offering the team a perfect blend of high-level football and cultural exploration.
Upon arrival in Lisbon, the group made their way to the sunny southern coast. The players jumped straight into action with multiple intensive training sessions at FC Silves, where they prepared for the competitive days ahead. They also played two friendly matches against Portuguese teams, Lusitano and Bensafrim, giving them valuable minutes and confidence going into the tournament.
Once the Algarve Cup kicked off, the boys faced a strong lineup of elite European academies. Their opening match saw them hold FC Copenhagen to a goalless draw, followed by a narrow 1-0 loss to RSC Anderlecht. They bounced back in impressive fashion with a strong 1-0 win over SC Braga, showcasing their ability to compete at a high level. The second tournament day brought another solid performance with a 0-0 draw against eventual winners Real Sociedad, before running into a powerful Sporting CP side, resulting in a 3-0 defeat. On the final day, they met FC Copenhagen again and lost by the narrowest of margins, 1-0, but closed out their campaign on a high note with a thrilling 3-2 win over FC Midtjylland.
While the football was intense and competitive, the trip was about more than just results. Travelling from Canada to Portugal offered a rich cultural exchange for the players. They experienced a new environment, enjoyed local cuisine, and soaked in the warm, coastal atmosphere of the Algarve region. It was a chance to not only grow as footballers, but also as individuals, gaining a broader world perspective and creating lasting memories as a team.
All in all, Supra Academy U16 had an unforgettable experience in Portugal. Between the high-level matches, professional training sessions, and cultural immersion, the trip offered exactly what a football journey abroad should—growth, competition, and connection. Everyone involved was highly impressed with the seamless organization and care provided by Orange Veins, turning this into a trip the team will always look back on with pride.
