The first edition of the Generation XIII Cup by Wolf Oil brought two days of international youth football to the Beerschot facilities in Antwerp. Hosted in close collaboration with K. Beerschot VA and Orange Veins, the tournament brought together 15 U12 teams from across Europe and beyond for a weekend filled with competitive football, entertainment and team experiences.
The line-up featured an impressive mix of clubs, including AZ Alkmaar, Borussia Mönchengladbach, Coach Alex, FC Toreros Tokyo, Fortuna Düsseldorf, Gentofte, KAA Gent, K. Beerschot VA, NAC Breda, OH Leuven, Parma Calcio, Queens Park Rangers, SK Rapid, Vitesse, Wooter Academy. With teams representing different countries and football backgrounds, the first edition provided plenty of interesting match-ups throughout the weekend.
The tournament format ensured there was plenty happening across the Beerschot complex. The opening day consisted of three group-stage matches for every team, with the results determining the fixtures for the second day. With four matches being played simultaneously across the half-size pitches, there was always something to watch, creating a lively atmosphere around the tournament grounds.
The second day brought the decisive matches, with every team playing twice to determine the final standings. The battle for the top positions produced an exciting finish. In the final, hosts K. Beerschot VA faced Borussia Mönchengladbach in a thrilling encounter. Beerschot made a strong start and quickly built a 2-0 lead, but Borussia Mönchengladbach responded with a strong comeback to turn the match around and secure the tournament victory.
The match for third place was equally competitive, with AZ Alkmaar eventually overcoming their opponents 3-2 to claim the final podium position.
Away from the matches, the players could also take part in the Skills Trophy. The challenge consisted of a variety of games that tested different skills, with teams aiming to complete each challenge as quickly as possible. It added an extra competitive element to the weekend and gave the players another opportunity to compete together away from the regular tournament matches.
With sunshine throughout the weekend and a strong turnout of spectators, the atmosphere around the Beerschot facilities was excellent. Supporters passionately encouraged their teams from the sidelines, creating an energetic setting for the young players and adding to the experience of the inaugural edition. The Generation XIII Cup by Wolf Oil U12 proved to be a successful first edition, combining international youth football with a lively tournament environment and activities for the participating teams. The variety of clubs, competitive matches and enthusiastic support made it a memorable weekend for everyone involved.
