Football in Austria

Austria is situated in the magnificent European Alps. Austria is very popular tourism destination in winter for winter sports and during summers for hikers and adventurists.

Beside this Austria has many great cities to visit like Vienna, the capital and largest city known for its impressive architecture and imperial palaces like Schönbrunn.

Another city worth visiting is Salzburg, which is listed on the UNESCO World Heritage list. Here you can climb the Hohensalzburg Fortress from which you have marvellous views over the old city.

Football

The national competition of Austria is called the Bundesliga just as their neighbouring country Germany. Clubs like Rapid Wien, Austria Wien and Red Bull Salzburg have been mostly dominating this competition with Rapid Wien that won most titles, followed by Austria Wien.

The clash between these teams is called the Wiener Derby and is guaranteed a spectacle. Since Red Bull took over SV Austria Salzburg in 2005 the club managed to win as many as 10 league titles.

This is why RB Salzburg is the most successful club in the 21st century. Famous Austrian players are Marko Arnautovic, David Alaba and Marcel Sabitzer.
