Football in Denmark

The Danish football competition is called the Superligaen. In this division teams like Copenhagen, Brøndby IF and Aalborg BK compete for the champion’s title.

On a national level the Danish squad was successful at the European Championships of 1992. After Yugoslavia’s participation in the tournament was denied, the previously unqualified Danish team became their stand-in.

To everyone’s surprise, the Danish team ended up winning the European Championship from the underdog position. Well-known Danish football players are Peter Schmeichel, Michael Landrup and Christian Eriksen.

Danish teams are very eager to improve the level of the players in their youth academy. Therefore, they regularly cross the borders of their own country to participate in high level football tournaments all over Europe. For the same reason, they are eager to invite foreign teams to visit their own youth academies.
